A remake of classic British film GET CARTER (2000) will now not be shown in the UK - because it is so awful.
The big budget revamp, starring SYLVESTER STALLONE, was originally tipped to be a huge blockbuster by film studio WARNER BROS. But the movie has been buried by Warners after it bombed spectacularly at the box office. It was also given a mauling by both film critics and moviegoers in America.
Originally made in 1971, Get Carter starred MICHAEL CAINE as a London wide-boy who moves to Newcastle to avenge his brother's death. However, in the new version RAMBO muscleman Stallone steps into Caine's shoes.
JACK CARTER is now a mob enforcer living in Las Vegas who returns to Seattle to seek those responsible for his sibling's homicide. The film features a cameo from Caine, plus appearances from MIRANDA RICHARDSON and MICKEY ROURKE. But despite flashy action sequences and exotic locations, the remake gained nothing but hoots of derision from American film fans. (NB/WN/NFA)
