Jurassic World set to become trilogy.

'Jurassic World' is set to become a trilogy.

Steven Spielberg and Colin Trevorrow, who co-wrote the last movie, are already planning and penning the stories for the next two sequels to the popular American science-fiction adventure flick, ?which became one of the highest-grossing films of all time following its release earlier this year.

Universal Pictures' chairman Donna Langley told The Hollywood Reporter she had no idea the two talents had concocted such plan but said it was a "happy surprise."

She added: "Colin Trevorrow is busy working on an outline. He's been working with Steven Spielberg. And they have an idea for the next two movies actually."

The first sequel is scheduled for release on June 22, 2018 and will see Chris Pratt, who played Owen Grady, and Bryce Dallas Howard, who portrayed Claire, reprise their roles.

However, the third film is yet to be given a release date but it's believed it won't hit cinema screens before 2020, and it's unknown who will make the final casting cut as of yet.
