Spielberg plans 'Grapes of Wrath' remake.

Steven Spielberg and DreamWorks are planning a remake of The Grapes of Wrath.

The Lincoln director will produce the new film based on the John Steinbeck classic.

The Grapes of Wrath was famously adapted by John Ford in the 1940, Henry Fonda-starring movie, which won two Oscars out of seven nominations.

The Depression-era novel centres around the Joads, a family of tenant farmers who travel to California in a vain attempt to improve their lot after being forced off their land in Oklahoma.

The Pulitzer Prize-winning Grapes of Wrath will celebrate its 75th anniversary next year.

Spielberg will next take the director's chair for the Bradley Cooper starring American Sniper.
