James Franco quits Broadway debut

James Franco has pulled out of his Broadway debut.

His publicist Robin Baum confirmed that the 127 Hours star has dropped out of a planned production of the Tennessee Williams play Sweet Bird Of Youth.

James was going to be paired on stage with Nicole Kidman, who is still on board, in his first Broadway show.

The play tells the story of an ageing actress and the gigolo paramour who uses her as he tries to help her get back into movies. David Cromer is scheduled to direct.

James, last seen in Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, is shooting the film Oz, appearing on US soap General Hospital and busy studying for a doctorate in English at Yale University.

He was nominated for a Best Leading Actor Oscar for his role as Aron Rolston in 127 Hours, where he played a climber who amputated his own right arm after becoming trapped by a rock.
