Cooper to play gangster Gotti?

Dominic Cooper is being lined up to play notorious New York mobster John Gotti Jr in new movie Gotti: Three Generations.

The film is being directed by Rain Man's Barry Levinson and will co-star John Travolta and Al Pacino.

Barry and Gotti: Three Generations screenplay writer James Toback attended the New York premiere of The Devil's Double this week to see Dominic, the New York Post reports.

The Mamma Mia! star shows a very different side to his acting range in The Devil's Double, playing Saddam Hussein's sadistic son Uday and his double.

A source said: "Dominic was blown away. He's read the Gotti script and already has great suggestions for the role."

Barry and James have also considered James Franco, Johnny Depp and Jeremy Renner for a part.

Solitary Man directors Brian Koppelman and David Levien also attended the premiere and are rumoured to be eyeing the British actor for their adaptation of seduction handbook The Game.

Casting agent Amanda Mackey Johnson, who helped Garry Marshall cast rom com New Year's Eve, was also reportedly trailing Dominic.
