James Cameron has announced that Edward Furlong will return in the role of John Connor for the upcoming Terminator: Dark Fate. Furlong previously played the role in Terminator 2: Judgement Day, but sat out every subsequent sequel where the role was filled by Nick Stahl, Christian Bale, and Jason Clarke.
Terminator: Dark Fate is going to be full of surprises, as was revealed during the panel for the movie at San Diego Comic-Con. The cast and filmmakers made the trek to the massive pop culture event, with Paramount Pictures using this as an opportunity to build some buzz for the sequel ahead of its release this fall.
The new film – the sixth in the long-running sci-fi series – is set to be a direct continuation of 1991's Terminator 2: Judgment Day, disregarding the poorly received previous sequels Rise of the Machines, Salvation, and Genisys.
Set 27 years after the events of T2, Dark Fate will see an advanced new Terminator sent from the future by Skynet to kill Dani Ramos. Luckily, help is on hand in the form of Sarah Connor and Arnold Schwarzenegger's original T-800.
