Could Kylie Minogue be preparing to return to acting?

Although the point-sized popette has not faced a camera since her disasterous outing in Street Fighter (1994), it is rumoured that fellow Aussie Baz Luhrmann – the man behind Nicole Kidman's Moulin Rouge (2001) and Leonardo DiCaprio's Romeo + Juliet (1996) – is hoping to persuade Kylie to take the lead role of Mimi in a film of Puccini's La Boheme. In 1993 Luhrmann staged a version of the opera in Sydney Opera House, updated from the 1830s to the 1950s, and he is currently planning to bring the production to Broadway. He is then keen to immortalise his high-octane version of the tragic tale – about a woman who kills herself after she falls pregnant - to the screen. According to a source, 'Kylie is starting to make it big in the States and she is just the sort of person that Baz loves – she can sing and dance and looks fabulous.' Kylie had a small role – as the absinth fairy – in Moulin Rouge.
