'Alien: Romulus': Cailee Spaeny Says New Film Sits Between First & Second 'Alien' Films.

Actor Cailee Spaeny has confirmed that the events of Alien: Romulus will unfold between those of 1979's Alien and 1986's Aliens.

While walking the red carpet at the recent Gotham Awards, Cailee Spaeny revealed where 20th Century Studios’ forthcoming Alien outing sat in the franchise timeline.

"It's supposed to slot in between the first movie and the second movie," Spaeny told Variety. "They brought the same team from Aliens, the James Cameron film. The same people who built those xenomorphs actually came on and built ours. So getting to see the original design with the original people who have been working on these films for 45-plus years and has been so much of their life has been really incredible."

The project has been described as "an original standalone feature", one that "will focus on a group of young people on a distant world." Spaeny leads the cast alongside Isabela Merced, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Spike Fearn and Aileen Wu.

Fede Alvarez co-wrote the script with Rodo Sayagues (Evil Dead). Ridley Scott is on board as producer for the film, the first movie in the franchise to be released by Disney.

This new addition to the "Alien" saga, set for release on August 16, 2024, intrigues fans with its potential connections to the events on LV-426, as depicted in Aliens. There’s a sense of continuity and novelty as Alvarez explores this untold chapter.
