Killers of the Flower Moon Star Lily Gladstone to Campaign for Best Actress at the Oscars.

Killers of the Flower Moon's Lily Gladstone reportedly has her sights set on becoming the first Native American nominated for the Best Actress Oscar.

Lily Gladstone will be campaigning for a Best Actress Oscar nomination for her role in Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon. The crime epic, which depicts the serial murder of the oil-wealthy Osage Nation members, has garnered plenty of Oscars's buzz since its Cannes Film Festival premiere in May.

Should Gladstone's Oscar nomination come to fruition (and it is expected to), the actress of Blackfeet and Nimíipuu heritage would make history as the first Native American nominee in the Best Actress category. Historically, the Academy Awards have lacked Indigenous representation, with just three women securing prior nominations: British actress Merle Oberon secured a nod for Dark Angel in 1935; decades later, Kiwi actress Keisha Castle-Hughes earned a nod for her role in 2003's Whale Rider; most recently Mexican actress Yalitza Aparicio received the nomination for 2018's Roma.

Killers of the Flower Moon is based on David Grann's 2017 non-fiction book Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI, which details the tragic real-life tale of Osage tribe members who were murdered during the 1920s under suspicious situations.
