Tim Burton Says Beetlejuice 2 Was "99% Done" Just Before The SAG-AFTRA Strike Hit.

Beetlejuice 2 director Tim Burton confirms the fantasy comedy is very close to completing filming as the anticipated sequel awaits the continuation or production following the SAG-AFTRA strike.

The SAG-AFTRA strike halted the production of Beetlejuice 2 just before the production could finish filming. A sequel nearly 40 years in the making, Beetlejuice 2 was confirmed to be in development this year after being long-rumored. The sequel will be directed by original Beetlejuice director Tim Burton, and will star Michael Keaton, Willem Dafoe, Winona Ryder, Monica Bellucci, Catherine O’Hara, and Wednesday’s Jenna Ortega.

"I feel grateful we got what we got," Burton told The Independent in a new interview. "Literally, it was a day and a half. We know what we have to do. It is 99 per cent done."

Burton also tells the outlet, "On this last one, Beetlejuice 2, I really enjoyed it. I tried to strip everything and go back to the basics of working with good people and actors and puppets. It was kind of like going back to why I liked making movies."

Beetlejuice 2 is scheduled to haunt theaters on September 6, 2024, although the ongoing WGA and SAG strikes could delay its release.
