Robert Pattinson and Nicholas Hoult Are in the Running to Play Batman in New Film.

Robert Pattinson and Nicholas Hoult are both contenders to play Batman in writer/director Matt Reeves' upcoming, eponymous "The Batman" film, which is set to hit theaters in June 2021.

Pre-production on the Warner Bros.DC Comics movie is expected to start later this year. Reeves, the filmmaker behind the last two "Planet of the Apes" sequels, assumed "Batman" directing duties from Ben Affleck in January 2017 and has been developing the project ever since. Affleck was the last actor to play Batman on the big screen in 2016's "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice", "Suicide Squad" and 2017's "Justice League", but revealed he was hanging up his bat suit for good in January.

Robert Pattinson is arguably best known for playing bloodsucker Edward Cullen in the Twilight movie series. Although he has turned in many fantastic performances in various movies since then, Pattinson is undoubtedly looking for a new key role to help reinvent his image.

Nicholas Hoult, meanwhile, has been switching between the superhero likes of the more recent X-Men movies and films such as The Favourite and Tolkien (2019). He can certainly handle the demands of both Bruce Wayne (who will be younger here than Ben Affleck's version) and the Caped Crusader.
