Radcliffe's Horns heads for Toronto.

Daniel Radcliffe's new film Horns is set to premiere at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival, as part of the Vanguard category.

The former Harry Potter star takes the lead alongside Juno Temple in Alexandre Aja's supernatural thriller, which will have its world premiere at the Canadian event in September.

Daniel stars as a man, who wakes up after a hard night of drinking with a pair of horns on his head, which cause people to fall into a trance and unravel their biggest secrets, with Juno playing his girlfriend, in the big-screen adaptation of Joe Hill's novel of the same name.

Other films premiering within the Vanguard field, which "takes audiences on a sensory rollercoaster ride with boundary-pushing international works that are bold and bodacious", include Eli Roth-produced The Sacrament, thriller We Gotta Get Out Of This Place and revenge story Blue Ruin.

The festival's international programmer Colin Geddes said: "From revenge and ruin to sex, drugs and taxation, this programme challenges audiences to go places that no audiences has gone before. Vanguard plunges them into a confrontational and unnerving world that sometimes comes a bit too close to reality for comfort."

The Toronto International Film Festival runs from September 5 to 15.
