New Karate Kid Film Adds Ming-Na Wen To The Cast.

Ming-Na Wen has joined the cast of Sony's new "Karate Kid" film.

Previously announced cast members include "American Born Chinese" star Ben Wang in the titular role, plus Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio, who will reprise their characters from previous entries in the franchise.

Marvel fans will recognize Ming-Na Wen from her role as Agent Melinda May in the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. television series. More recently, Wen played the fan favorite role of Fennec Shand in Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett following her debut in The Mandalorian. She is also well known for voicing the titular character in Disney's Mulan along with Detective Ellen Yin in the animated series The Batman.

Specific details have not been revealed but the new film will center on an East Coast Chinese teenager (Wang) who begins to find his place in the world through martial arts. Chan and Macchio have established characters in the universe, characters they are set to reprise and continue the mythology of the original franchise. Macchio starred as Daniel LaRusso in the 1984 Karate Kid movie, still about a teenager who finds his place in the world through martial arts. Chan starred in the 2010 remake set in China starring Jaden Smith and Taraji P. Henson.
