Joshua Jackson to make movie return in Karate Kid.

Joshua Jackson is set to make a return to movies after an almost 10 year absence.

The 45-year-old actor - who last appeared on the big screen in 2015's 'Sky' - is set to star in the new 'Karate Kid' movie.

Jackson will join a cast that’s set to include Ben Wang, as well as Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio, who are reprising their roles as Mr. Han and Daniel LaRusso, respectively.

Meanwhile, 'American Born Chinese' star Ben Wang landed the leading role after Sony launched a global search for the new Karate Kid.

Plot details are being kept under the mat, but the new installment will bring the story to the East Coast and focus on a teen from from China (Wang) who finds strength and direction via martial arts and a tough but wise mentor.

In November 2023, it was announced that Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan are both reprising their roles in the forthcoming movie. Macchio played Daniel LaRusso in 1984’s The Karate Kid, along with the movie’s two sequels, 1986’s The Karate Kid Part II and 1989’s The Karate Kid Part III.

Macchio also reprised the role for Netflix’s Cobra Kai sequel series, which will release its final season later this year. It’s not immediately clear if the new Karate Kid movie will play into the events of Cobra Kai.

Chan, meanwhile, played Mr. Han in the 2010 reboot of The Karate Kid, which also starred Jaden Smith.

The new Karate Kid movie is currently scheduled to release on December 13, 2024.
