Last month it was announced that Paramount had halted pre-production on M:i 6 Mission Impossible, the sixth instalment of the blockbuster spy franchise, owing to contractual disputes with producer and leading man Tom Cruise.
However, it looks like the issues have now been ironed out, as The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Cruise is now on the verge of closing his deal, and the project is once again moving forward. Initially, filming was set to get underway in January, although this has now been pushed back until the Spring.
Also remaining on the franchise locomotive is Christopher McQuarrie – director of 2015’s Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation. In addition, Rebecca Ferguson will also reprise her role from that most recent instalment.
It has been suggested that the style and tone of the sixth film will be significantly different from those previous series entries, which might indicate that the filmmakers involved are seeking to revitalize what is now becoming a somewhat tired format.
