After previously saying that there was no plan for a fourth solo Iron Man movie, Robert Downey Jr. appears to have changed his mind, telling Ellen DeGeneres that he's "in the middle of negotiations" for another outing as the armored Avenger.
"I know there's going to be a bunch more Marvel movies, and they have big ideas of how to do it best, and we're in the middle of negotiations," the actor said when asked if there would be another Iron Man movie. "So, yes," DeGeneres interrupted.
"Okay, yes," he agreed. "Yes."
These comments follow an interview last week when Downey Jr. said that he'd do a fourth Iron Man if Marvel hired Mel Gibson to direct, something he described during a Reddit AMA session Tuesday as "an offhanded remark" instead of a serious suggestion. "I have other projects in mind for Mel and I," he clarified, adding that "sooner or later the Marvel roster will be made public and all questions about further appearances as Tony Stark will be answered."
