Star Wars 'to shoot in Morocco'.

J.J. Abrams is to start shooting the new Star Wars film in Morocco, it has been reported.

The director will begin filming Episode VII on location in the country on May 14.

The choice of Morocco has sparked rumours that it will be the setting for the planet Tatooine, because it is where George Lucas shot some of the Tatooine scenes for the original trilogy. However, the majority of those scenes were filmed in Tunisia.

Little is known about the eagerly anticipated movie, from plot details to casting, but it has been announced that it will be set 30 years after Return Of The Jedi.

Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong'o is the latest in a long list of big names who have been linked to the next instalment in the sci-fi saga.

Her 12 Years A Slave co-star Chiwetel Ejiofor, Ed Speleers, Gary Oldman, Ryan Gosling, Leonardo DiCaprio, Saoirse Ronan, Alex Pettyfer, Benedict Cumberbatch and Michael B Jordan are among the other names that have also been rumoured for roles.

Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill are tipped to be returning to reprise their original roles in the film.
