New drama role for Julia Roberts

Julia Roberts is reportedly in talks to star with Tom Hanks in a new drama.

Variety says she's in early talks with director Mike Nichols for the role in Charlie Wilson's War.

It would be her first onscreen role since 2004's Ocean's Twelve.

Roberts would star opposite Hanks, who is also co-producing the film for Universal Pictures.

Hanks declared last year that he'd play Charlie Wilson, the rogue Texas congressman who oversaw the covert funding of the Afghan rebels in their battle against the Soviet Union.

Roberts would play Joanne Herring, a big-haired and beautiful Texas socialite who influenced Wilson to support the rebel cause.
