Maggie Gyllenhaal to Direct 'Bride of Frankenstein' Remake Starring Christian Bale.

Maggie Gyllenhaal will step behind the camera to direct an upcoming remake of the universally acclaimed classic horror flick Bride of Frankenstein. This will mark Gyllenhaal's second directorial feature, following 2021's The Lost Daughter. The Netflix remake, currently titled The Bride, will reunite Gyllenhaal with her The Dark Knight co-star Christian Bale, who is set to star. Peter Sarsgaard, Gyllenhaal's husband, is also tied to the project in a starring role.

This is actually the streamer's second star-studded Frankenstein remake in development after Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein movie for Netflix cast Andrew Garfield, Oscar Isaac, and Mia Goth earlier this year. Countless artists have put their stamp on the source material over the years, and Gyllenhaal seems like a perfect choice for a remake of Bride of Frankenstein, which is known for everything from its unique blend of horror, humor, and emotion, atmospheric cinematography, and impressive costuming and makeup.

Bale has had no problem channeling his inner monster in the past with roles like Batman and Patrick Bateman in American Psycho. No matter who he plays, Bale will be following a long line of iconic Frankenstein actors which includes Boris Karloff, Colin Clive, Peter Cushing, and Christopher Lee.
