The producers of hit medical drama ER have a gay shocker planned to help boost ratings.

A sexy psychiatrist, played by actress ELIZABETH MITCHELL, is set to start a stormy affair with regular LAURA INNES' cane-carrying character DR KERRY WEAVER.

Mitchell, who played ANGELINA JOLIE's girlfriend in TV movie GIA, will play the lesbian psychiatrist in four forthcoming ER episodes.
