Adam Shankman has been announced as director of the upcoming "Hocus Pocus" sequel for Disney+.
Adam Shankman has closed a deal to direct Hocus Pocus 2. It was previously revealed that Jen D'Angelo (Workaholics) was set to pen the screenplay. Story details remain under wraps for the time being. It's said that the original cast members, Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy are not yet attached to the sequel, but Disney hopes that they will be involved.
"Hocus Pocus" followed three witch sisters who were cursed in Salem in 1693 but were resurrected 300 years later by a boy, his sister and the boy's love interest. While the film wasn't a box office success and only earned $39 million worldwide, it has become a cult classic, especially for Halloween time.
Lynn Harris will produce. Shankman is currently in pre-production on "Disenchanted", the "Enchanted" sequel which is also in development.
