Set in mid-19th-century Tokyo, the story follows a young samurai, Fusanosuke, who finds himself in trouble after accidentally wounding a powerful samurai during an argument. The nervous swordsman receives comfort in the arms of a young prostitute working at a brothel. While hiding out, he realizes that he's falling in love and is determined to rescue his girl from her sinful way of life even as his own life is in danger.
