Robert De Niro gives a landmark performance as "Travis," a 'graveyard shift" taxi driver/human time bomb, whose high ideals put him in direct conflict with his "low brow" clientele-finally motivating him to become a one-man demolition squad, dedicated to cleaning up the mean streets of New York City.
