Jack Black Joins Jason Momoa in 'Minecraft' Movie.

Jack Black is reported to have joined the cast of the Minecraft movie. The upcoming video game adaptation will be led by Aquaman’s Jason Momoa.

This venture will mark the actor's third video game adaptation after Super Mario Bros. Movie and the upcoming 2024 movie Borderlands. While the exact nature of Black’s role is yet to be announced, it is speculated that he may be playing the character of Steve.

The Minecraft movie has been stealthily piecing together an ensemble cast since it was first announced, with Peacemaker star Danielle Brooks, Emma Myers, and Sebastian Eugene Hansen previously being announced to star alongside Momoa in the video game adaptation.

"Napoleon Dynamite" filmmaker Jared Hess, who previously worked with Black on the 2006 comedy "Nacho Libre", is directing the project. Warner Bros. and Legendary are backing "Minecraft", which is slated to open in theaters on April 4, 2025.

In "Minecraft," players enter a world comprised of blocks, making the world look like a 3D, pixelated video game that encourages exploration, imagination, and community. The game lets players build everything from houses and cities to weapons and even complex mechanical devices, not unlike playing with digital LEGO bricks. You can either play survival mode, where players have to forage for food and supplies while fending off enemies with weapons like swords and pickaxes, or creative mode, where players can build whatever they want without the threat of being attacked.
