Will Smith confirms 'I Am Legend 2' in the works with Michael B. Jordan.

Will Smith confirmed a sequel to 2007's "I Am Legend" remains in the works - and that costar Michael B. Jordan is on board. He told the audience at Saudia Arabia’s Red Sea International Film Festival that the second film will be utilizing the alternate ending from the first film's DVD extras that indicated his character was still alive.

Smith also said, "I have a call with Michael B. Jordan tomorrow. The script just came in… I’m probably giving away too much information."

"We're going with the mythology of the DVD version where my character lived," he added. "I can’t tell you any more, but Michael B. Jordan is in and we’re doing it."

In I Am Legend's theatrical ending, Neville sacrifices himself to rescue fellow survivors Anna (Alice Braga) and Ethan (Charlie Tahan), handing them a cure for the virus as he fends off the Darkseeker mutant swarms, making him a heroic figure for survivors. However, the alternate ending saw Neville realize the mutants were simply rescuing the being he'd experimented on, and while he and the mutants end things amicably and allow him, Anna, and Ethan to leave in peace, he must grapple with the knowledge that he himself has become the monster in their eyes. While I Am Legend was a commercial and critical success, debate has continued around which conclusion is best.

Francis Lawrence is also back in the director's chair for I Am Legend 2. Goldsman co-wrote the original film's screenplay with Mark Protosevich. Along with Smith, the film also starred Alice Braga, Chalir Tahan, Dash Mihok, Emma Thompson, and Willow Smith. While her return hasn't been confirmed at this time, Braga has teased that she's hopeful she'll also get to return to reunite with Smith for I Am Legend 2.
