Biography

SAM HAMM is best known as the screenwriter for the hugely successful Batman. He also wrote the story for Batman Returns.

Hamm was born in Charlottesville, Virginia, and attended both the University of Virginia and the State University of New York at Buffalo. Pursuing a screenwriting career in both New York and Los Angeles, Hamm was assigned by Jay Presson Allen to adapt Farley Mowat's acclaimed novel Never Cry Wolf. The film, directed by Carroll Ballard, was a critical hit.

A self-described "voracious" comic-book reader since early childhood, Hamm wrote a three-issue sequence of "Batman" stories for DC Comics, celebrating the hero's 50th anniversary.

Hamm co-created and produced the television series "M.A.N.T.I.S." with Sam Raimi and Robert Tapert and wrote a screenplay, The Fantastic Four, for 1492 Pictures and Twentieth Century Fox
