NICOLAS CLERMONT is an independent producer whose career in films began in the early sixties in France. In 1968, Clermont moved to Montreal, where he became involved in directing and producing educational documentaries and series for television. After taking a detour to produce in Los Angeles, he returned to Montreal in the early 1980s to co-found Filmline International.
In a relatively short time, Filmline International became one of the leaders in production and co-production in Canada, with an impressive slate of features, movies-of-the-week and mini-series. Among their best known titles are "Bethune: The Making of a Hero," the first official co-production with China, starring Donald Sutherland, Helen Mirren and Anouk Aimée; "Vendetta II," a 6-hour mini-series starring Eli Wallach, Carol Alt and Burt Young, in co-production with Titanus and Mediaset of Italy; "The Breakthrough," a co-production with Great Britain; 106 one-hour episodes of "Highlander: The Series," in co-production with Gaumont Television, France; "Young Ivanhoe" and "A Young Connecticut Yankee," two tri-partite productions (Canada/France/U.K.) starring Michael York, Stacey Keach and Theresa Russell; "Rainbow," a co-production with Great Britain, directed by and starring Bob Hoskins; "Hollow Point," directed by Sidney Furie and starring John Lithgow and Donald Sutherland; "Natural Enemy," a thriller starring Donald Sutherland and Leslie Ann Warren; "The Peacekeeper," starring Dolph Lundgren; "This is My Father," a Canada/Ireland co-production starring Aidan Quinn, James Caan, Stephen Rea and John Cusack, presented at the Sundance Film Festival and distributed in the U.S. by Sony Classics; "Monument Ave.," directed by Ted Demme and starring Denis Leary, Famke Janssen, Martin Sheen, Jeanne Tripplehorn and Billy Crudup, presented at the Sundance and San Sebastian Film Festivals; "Free Money," a feature film starring Marlon Brando, Charlie Sheen, Mira Sorvino and Donald Sutherland; "The Secret Adventures of Jules Verne I and II," two series of 11 one-hour episodes each, shot in HDTV, in co-production with Talisman Crest of the United Kingdom; "Eye of the Beholder," a co-production with Great Britain, written and directed by Stephan Elliott and starring Ewan McGregor and Ashley Judd, which reached No. 1 at the box office on its opening week in January 2000.
