Biography

DANTE SPINOTTI was born in Tolmezzo, Italy. His early work in Italy includes such films as "The Basileus Quartet,” “Hearts and Armour" and "Sotto, Sotto." He made his American bow with Michael Mann's 1986 thriller, "Manhunter," and continued in the U.S. with such films as "Crimes of the Heart, Beaches," "True Colors," "Frankie and Johnny", "The Last of the Mohicans, Blink," "Nell," "The Quick and the Dead," "Heat," "The Mirror Has Two Faces" and Curtis Hanson's "L.A. Confidential."

For his work on "L.A. Confidential," Mr. Spinotti was nominated for an Academy Award and received the award for best cinematography from the Los Angeles Film Critics. Previously, he received a BAFTA Film Award for his work on "Last of the Mohicans." Most recently, he received the award for best cinematography from the Los Angeles film Critics for his work on Michael Mann's film, "The Insider."
