Biography

Christopher McDonald's versatility as an actor has led him to work with an impressive list of directors on a wide range of projects that have earned him critical accolades. He was recently profiled in The New York Times and USA Today as one of the hardest-working actors of the decade.

On television, McDonald currently stars in the hit CBS drama "Family Law," opposite Kathleen Quinlan and Dixie Carter. Previously, McDonald mastered the sitcom genre playing Kirstie Alley's estranged husband on the NBC series "Veronica's Closet."

McDonald appears in several upcoming films and co-starred in the college thriller The Skulls. He was recently featured as a meteorologist in Wolfgang Peterson's The Perfect Storm; and will soon be seen as a man in the middle in Neil LaBute's Nurse Betty and as an FBI agent in Joe Chappelle's Takedown.

Among McDonald's extensive film credits are the award-winning animated feature The Iron Giant. He played a golf pro in the Adam Sandler comedy hit Happy Gilmore; television host Jack Barry in Robert Redford's Quiz Show; and Geena Davis' controlling husband in Ridley Scott's Thelma & Louise.

Born and raised in New York City, McDonald studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, and is a graduate of the Stella Adler Acting Conservatory in New York. He earned the Dramalogue Best Actor Award for his role in the play Final Touches. His theatrical credits include the Obie-winning musical Nightclub Cantina; Bouncers, which won LA Weekly and Robby Awards for Best Ensemble Cast; Hayfever; and the Los Angeles Theatre Center's productions of Hamlet, Othello and The Taming of the Shrew.
