Biography

ROBERT DOWNEY, JR. received an Academy Award® nomination and won the BAFTA Award for Best Actor for his performance in the title role of "Chaplin."

The son of famed 1960s underground filmmaker Robert Downey, he first appeared onscreen as a child in his father's 1970 film, "Pound." His next film appearance was 14 years later, in the Jaffe Lansing production "First Born."

Among the directors with whom he has most recently worked are Robert Altman ("Short Cuts," "The Gingerbread Man"), Oliver Stone ("Natural Born Killers"), Jodie Foster ("Home for the Holidays"), Richard Loncraine ("Richard III"), Michael Hoffman ("Restoration"), Mike Figgis ("One Night Stand"), Neil Jordan ("In Dreams"), Frank Oz ("Bowfinger"), James Toback ("Two Gifts and a Guy,” “Black and White") and, once again, his father ("Hugo Pool").
