Producer defends casting Scarlett Johansson as an Asian character in Ghost in the Shell.

After all the controversy surrounding the upcoming Ghost in the Shell remake, the movie's producer has now come out in its defence.

The film, based on the seminal Masamune Shirow Japanese manga series, has been accused of whitewashing over casting Scarlett Johansson in an Asian role.

Controversy has been fuelled further after reports emerged of the studios running CGI tests in order to alter the appearances of white actors.

Despite this, producer Steven Paul has argued that fans will be won over when they see the finished film.

"I think everybody is going to end up being really happy with it,"

"They're going to be very, very happy with it when they see what we've actually done with it, and I don't think anybody's going to be disappointed."

However, he also admitted that the remake will be tweaking certain details of the original in order to fit with their new world, including changing the name of Johansson's character to The Major as opposed to Major Kusanagi.
