Ridley Scott's Prometheus sequel gets new name.

Ridley Scott's latest film in the Alien series has been renamed, going from Alien: Paradise Lost To Alien: Covenant.

The director announced the news at last night's AFI Film Festivall

Alien: Covenant as it is now known is the sequel to Scott's prequel to the Alien films, Prometheus.

The director announced the news during discussions about his film currently on release, The Martian starring Matt Damon.

When asked about his process of planning which films to shoot when, he said: "I've got no plan. I go from pillar to post randomly."

"I have this childlike fascination and thrill of doing it", before starting a discussion into how his work on The Martian began.

"I was going to be doing what will be called Alien: Covenant, which starts shooting next February, and we were struggling then with the screenplay there and then there was a phone call, somebody saying, 'Listen, we've got this thing which is completely written called Martian,' and I said, 'Huh'."

"And I sped read it in an hour and by mid-afternoon, I talked to Fox and said, 'I need to talk to 'Drew Goddard…'"

So, a little aside but it seems to be confirmation of the name change.

Alien: Covenant, if it is subjected to no further name change, is due for release May 30, 2017.
