Freddie Highmore has said it "would be fantastic" to be considered for the role of Spider-Man.
When asked what he thought about the idea of taking over the iconic role, Highmore told IGN: "Obviously I would love to be considered. That would be fantastic. I guess we'll just see how things go."
The 23-year-old actor currently stars as Norman Bates in A&E's Bates Motel and compared taking up the role of Spider-Man to taking over from Anthony Perkins' own portrayal of the original Norman Bates in Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho.
"I guess similarly with the actor who ends up playing Spider-Man there will always be comparisons made with Tobey Maguire's great performance and most recently Andrew Garfield."
Last month, it was reported that Sony was seeking a "much younger" actor to replace Andrew Garfield, leading to names such as Josh Hutcherson, Dylan O'Brien and Donald Glover to all be suggested as the next Spider-Man.
