Eddie Redmayne wins Best Actor Golden Globe.

Eddie Redmayne thanked Stephen Hawking and his family for allowing him to make Theory of Everything, The (2014) at the Golden Globe Awards last night (January 11).

The 33-year-old was named Best Actor for his portrayal of the theoretical physicist and cosmologist in his early days.

"Oh my god, what an extraordinary thing. It's a great privilege for me to be in this room," he said.

"I've spent most of this evening trying not to letch over actors I admire. Being here is an extraordinary thing. This was a huge privilege. Stephen, Jane and the Hawking family allowed us into their lives and trusted us in their story."

"I would like to thank our producers, the director, Felicity Jones - the most formidable actress who raised my game."

The newlywed also thanked his wife Hannah Bagshawe, after the couple cut short their honeymoon to attend the ceremony.

Boyhood (2014) scooped the most gongs at this year's Golden Globe Awards.

The coming-of-age drama film picked up three awards in total, including Best Motion Picture (Drama), Best Director for Richard Linklater and Best Supporting Actress for Patricia Arquette.

On collecting the movie's top prize, Linklater said: "This is a very personal film for me, it couldn't be more personal, and it became very personal to everyone who worked on it."

"Bottom line is we're all flawed in this world. No-one's perfect. I want to dedicate this to parents that are evolving everywhere and families that are just passing through this world and doing their best."
