Nurses Rustle Crowe's Feathers

GLADIATOR star RUSSELL CROWE had to fight off the ladies to preserve his virtue when naughty nurses tried to get his kit off.

The New Zealand hunk was in hospital for an operation to repair a nasty shoulder injury - and despite being heavily anaesthetised, Crowe was wide awake when lusty hospital staff told him to strip down to paper pants.

The hunky actor firmly refused - on the basis that "it's my f***ing shoulder". Crowe sustained the injury while training for his new non-action film, FLORA PLUM, in Austin, Texas.

The 36-year-old boyfriend of MEG RYAN eschewed American doctors, flying over to see a specialist in Melbourne, Australia. His injury has effectively sidelined Flora Plum, which marks pal JODIE FOSTER's return to the director`s chair.

Crowe was to have starred as a circus freak who falls for a young, penniless waif, played by CLAIRE DANES, and helps launch her to fame.
