Scarlett Johansson has been deemed ineligible to win a Golden Globe nomination for her performance in Her (2013), which won her Best Actress at the Rome Film Festival.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) have told the actress she can't be in the running for the prize because she voices a computer, Samantha, and is never actually seen on screen, The Hollywood Reporter said.

It had been suggested that Scarlett could be the first-ever actor or actress to win an Oscar for a film they weren't seen in, but as the Golden Globes are often a good indicator for the Academy Awards, this may not now be the case.

Her sees Joaquin Phoenix's character fall in love with computer Samantha, his new operating system that has been designed to meet his every need.

The HFPA previously stopped Andy Serkis for being in the running to win for his CGI characters in Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes in 2011 and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey in 2012.

Meanwhile, Woody Allen will be sticking to his policy of shunning awards ceremonies, despite being given the Cecil B DeMille Award at the Golden Globes.

According to Deadline he will not be attending the ceremony in January and the HFPA decided to honour him without getting a commitment that he would come to collect it.
