Cate Blanchett is stepping behind the scenes to direct a movie.
The Hobbit actress will make her directorial debut with a big screen adaptation of Herman Koch's novel The Dinner, reported Deadline.
It isn't known whether Oscar-winner Cate, 44, will also star in the indie thriller.
The best-selling book is set over the course of one dinner in Amsterdam and follows two families whose sons have committed a terrible crime and explores how far parents will go to protect their children.
While it will mark the first time Cate has been at the helm of a movie, the Blue Jasmine star has directed stage productions in her role as co-artistic director of the Sydney Theatre Company.
