Brad Pitt opens up about Jolie op.

Brad Pitt has said it was important for his partner Angelina Jolie to share her story about having a double mastectomy.

The Hollywood star said others "would understand it doesn't have to be a scary thing" after Angelina took the decision to have the preventative procedure.

He said in an interview published in USA Today: "In fact, it can be an empowering thing, and something that makes you stronger and makes us stronger."

This week Brad's fiancee Angelina revealed in The New York Times that she had a double mastectomy and breast reconstruction because she carries the "faulty" gene BRCA1, which sharply increases her risk of developing breast cancer and ovarian cancer.

Brad, who has six children with the actress, called the experience "an emotional and beautifully inspiring few months". He added: "It's such a wonderful relief to come through this and not have a spectre hanging over our heads. To know that that's not going to be something that's going to affect us. My most proudest thing is our family. This isn't going to get that."

Other family members have also praised Angelina.

Brad's mother Jane Pitt gave a statement, telling People: "We're so very proud of Angie. This means so much to our family, especially our grandchildren. We love her dearly."

And the actress's dad Jon Voight told how he only found out that his daughter had undergone the double mastectomy when he read the news.
