In an official announcement, Lucasfilm has revealed that 'Star Wars: Episode VII' is to be made in the United Kingdom…

The filmmaking giants announced today that 'Star Wars: Episode VII' will see the production of the 'Star Wars' saga return to British shores… providing an enormous boost for the British film industry. With rumours of original cast members Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill and even Harrison Ford returning to the franchise, this means we could see them return to the UK for filming when production begins in 2014. But could the rumours about Pinewood Studios be true?

The official announcement explains Lucasfilm's long history with the UK film industry and the ties 'Star Wars' has to its many wonderful studios... but unfortunately, doesn't reveal any specifics.

"We've devoted serious time and attention to revisiting the origins of Star Wars as inspiration for our process on the new movie," explained President of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy. "I'm thrilled that returning to the UK for production and utilizing the incredible talent there can be a part of that."

And while George Lucas has previously spoken of his affinity for the United Kingdom, it seems he's not the only one who is happy to be making films here.

"Speaking from my own longstanding connection to the UK," Kennedy explained. "With films like Raiders of the Lost Ark, Empire of the Sun and recently War Horse, it's very exciting to be heading back."

'Star Wars: Episode VII' is expected to start production in 2014 after British Chancellor George Osborne lured the iconic filmmakers to our shores with the continued promise of tax relief to high quality filmmakers.

"I am delighted that Star Wars is coming back to Britain," Osborne explained. "Today's announcement that the next Star Wars film will be shot and produced in the UK is great news for fans and our creative industries."
