Jackson excited about Hobbit 3.

Peter Jackson has revealed that he will start work on the third Hobbit film shortly.

The filmmaker said he will soon begin editing the final instalment of the Lord Of The Rings prequel, The Hobbit: There And Back Again as he introduced a live chat from his editing room in New Zealand.

"A lot of that movie was shot nearly a year ago, so I'm looking forward to seeing it come alive, shot by shot in the cutting room. It's like assembling one of those complex 2000-piece jigsaw puzzles," he wrote on his Facebook page.

Lord Of The Rings stars Orlando Bloom, Stephen Fry, Evangeline Lilly, Dominic Monaghan and Billy Boyd were among the celebrities submitting questions to the director during the question-and-answer web session.

Peter also revealed that the second film in the trilogy, The Desolation Of Smaug, will see more thrills. It is due out in December.

"It is complicated to do a middle film but the advantages are that we have multiple storylines," he explained.

"The great thing about the second movie, as with (Lord Of The Rings) The Twin Towers, is that the story starts splitting into multiple storylines and we can follow different characters as the story intensifies and the stakes go up."

The full web chat is available at The Hobbit's official site but requires an access code, which can be found on the packaging of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Blu-ray and DVD.
