Daniel Radcliffe has said that he is "miffed" by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' decision not to reward the Harry Potter series with more Oscar nominations.

The wizard series, which has generated more than $7 billion in worldwide box office revenues and won critical praise, has been nominated for 12 Academy Awards in total but has so far failed to win any.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (2011) earned three Oscar nominations last month - for 'Art Direction', 'Makeup' and 'Special Effects' - but was overlooked in the major acting and directing categories.

Radcliffe told the Radio Times that he couldn't understand why Hugo (2011) had picked up so many Oscar nominations, yet Deathly Hallows: Part 2 hadn't.

"I don't think the Oscars like commercial films, or kids' films, unless they're directed by Martin Scorsese," Radcliffe said.

"I was watching Hugo the other day and going, 'Why is this nominated and we're not?' I was slightly miffed. There's a certain amount of snobbery."

He added: "It's kind of disheartening. I never thought I'd care."
