Date set for the next Bond movie

Movie bosses have revealed James Bond will return to cinemas in October next year.

The film, the 23rd Bond film, will be released in the UK on October 26 - a fortnight ahead of the US release.

Daniel Craig will return for his third performance as the suave agent in the as-yet-untitled film.

British film-maker Sam Mendes, who won an Oscar for American Beauty, will direct the latest adventure.

Work on the film was suspended indefinitely in April last year because of uncertainty over the future of film studio MGM.

The next film's release will come just days after the 50th anniversary of the first 007 film, which came out on October 5 1962.

Producers have still to confirm the rest of the cast.

Daniel's casting as Bond helped to reinvigorate the film franchise, leading to the highest ever 007 box office takings of £367 million for his debut in Casino Royale in 2006.

Quantum of Solace (2008), the most recent film in the series released in 2008, generated £353 million.
