Former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has announced that he and his wife of 25 years Maria Shriver are separating.
"After a great deal of thought, reflection, discussion and prayer, we came to this decision," the two said in a statement.
They said they were working on the future of their relationship while living apart and would also continue to parent their four children together.
They did not provide further details.
"This has been as time of great personal and professional transition for each of us," Mr Schwarzenegger and Mrs Shriver said in the statement issued by Mr Schwarzenegger's spokesman.
Schwarzenegger finished his second term as governor in January and has been on the speech circuit and pursuing various entertainment projects.
Shriver was a correspondent for NBC News when she left to fulfil her role as First Lady to the California governor.
