Jackson recovering from surgery

Director Peter Jackson has undergone surgery for a perforated ulcer after he was admitted to hospital with acute stomach pains on Wednesday.

The moviemaker, who is in his native New Zealand, began suffering discomfort earlier this week and on Wednesday he checked into Wellington Hospital.

He underwent an operation to treat a perforated ulcer and is now resting comfortably, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Production on the highly-anticipated Lord Of The Rings prequel, The Hobbit, will be postponed to allow Jackson to make a full recovery.

A statement from the movie's production company reads, "Sir Peter's surgery is not expected to impact on his directing commitment to The Hobbit beyond a slight delay to the start of filming."

Filming on The Hobbit had been scheduled to begin next month. It is not known when the shoot will now commence.
