Paula Patton wins 'Mission: Impossible' role

Paula Patton has landed the lead female role in the fourth Mission: Impossible movie.

The Precious actress, who held off competition from Lauren German and Smallville's Kristin Kreuk to win the part, will play a young operative who works with Tom Cruise's secret agent Ethan Hunt.

There aren’t that many details about the role yet, though according to Deadline, Patton will be playing a young operative who works as part of Ethan Hunt (Cruise)’s M:I team.

Looks like Patton, last seen in Just Wright and Precious, will be working alongside Jeremy Renner, who now appears to be a lock as a fellow younger agent .
Ving Rhames and Simon Pegg are also among the cast for the movie, which will jettison the Mission: Impossible 4 title and rebrand the spy series.

The film is set to begin production in the fall for a December 16, 2011 through Paramount. However, the actual story is yet to have been revealed and will likely remain mum should history involving anything J.J. Abrams is involved in be any indicator.

M:I 4 was penned by Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec based on a story hatched by Abrams and Cruise. As far as sticking to the tone and developing story of the first three films that's entirely up in the air it seems as it has also been rumored Paramount may not even title the film using Mission: Impossible.

Brad Bird is directing the film for a December 2011 release.
