Matthew McConaughey has joined the cast of new film Tropic Thunder in place of Owen Wilson.

The comedy being directed by Ben Stiller also stars Jack Black, Robert Downey Jr, Nick Nolte and Steve Coogan.

McConaughey will take the role earmarked for Wilson who was taken to hospital last month, reports Variety.com.

Tropic Thunder is about a group of actors shooting a war film on a remote island who are forced to become the soldiers they are playing.
