Keira's Golden Globes boost

Keira Knightley has been nominated for a best actress award at the Golden Globes.

She is in the running for her role as Elizabeth Bennet in Pride and Prejudice.

Keira, 20, is up against Dame Judi Dench for the accolade of best actress in a musical or comedy.

Dame Judi was selected for her performance in wartime drama Mrs Henderson Presents. It is Keira's first major award nomination - and she almost turned the role down.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star confessed: "I thought I wasn't good enough.

"
And I thought to take on a character like Elizabeth Bennet that is so well loved, I was kind of setting myself up to be shot down."

The awards, viewed as a strong indicator for the Oscars, are on January 16.

Gay cowboy movie Brokeback Mountain has seven nominations including best picture.

Rachel Weisz is selected for best supporting actress for The Constant Gardener. Pride and Prejudice and Mrs Henderson Presents are nominated for best musical or comedy picture.

Ex-007 star Pierce Brosnan is up for best actor in a musical or comedy for The Matador.
