King Kong a 'three hour feast'

Peter Jackson's version of King Kong is a three hour spectacular being hailed by studio bosses as a 'masterpiece'.

The Lord of the Rings director's remake of the classic has cost £115million to make - a third more than expected, reports the New York Times.

But executives at Universal, who got to see the film last month in New Zealand, seem happy with what they have got.

"This is a three-hour feast of an event," said Marc Shmuger, vice chairman of Universal Pictures, who described the film as a tragic love story between the ape and Naomi Watts.

"I've never come close to seeing an artist working at this level," he said.

"I anticipated it would be long, but not this long," added Universal chairwoman, Stacey Snider. "This is a masterpiece. I can't wait to unveil it."

King Kong will be released on December 14.
