Jude Law Alfie remake one of worst

Jude Law film Alfie has been voted one of the worst movie remakes of all time.

The sexy star's performance in the role made famous by Michael Caine has not impressed critics.

Fans say the new version, which also stars Law's girlfriend Sienna Miller, is not a patch on the 1966 original.

Alfie came sixth in the Top 10 Worst Remakes poll, carried out by DVD rental firm ScreenSelect.co.uk.

The original was set in London in the mid 1960s with a captivating Caine talking to the camera about his "birds", while Law's womaniser is transported to New York and fails to engage the audience in the same way.

Alex Chesterman, ScreenSelect.co.uk founder, said: "Time after time, remakes fail to sparkle like the originals. The rehashed productions trade off fond memories of much-loved films. This poll is an indication that remakes can't compare with films which were classics of their time.

"
It also proves you just can't beat Michael Caine."

The flop remake of Get Carter, with Michael Caine replaced this time by Sylvester Stallone, topped the list.
