Hanks to star in first western

Tom Hanks is reportedly to star in his first western.

Empire says the Terminal star has signed up to appear in Boone's Lick with Julianne Moore.

The film is an adaptation of a novel by Lonesome Dove author Larry McMurty.

In it Moore plays a headstrong woman who goes on a journey with her children from Boone's Lick, Montana, to the fort where her husband lives.

She takes her husband's brother, played by Hanks, along with her, and falls in love with him on the way.

Cider House Rules and Shipping News director Lasse Hallstrom is in talks to direct the Universal project.
